A big thank you to all the parents and carers that helped with (or bought cakes from) our Class 3 cake sale for the end of year activity.
A big thank you to Evie, Mia and Heather who helped run the stall. :)
We will be learning about our local area this term.
What do you know about Cornwall county?
Why do you think Cornwall is so special?
What would you like to learn about?
We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year Break.
Welcome back to school!
What are you New Years Resolutions?
Our Topic this term is 'Around The World.'
At the end of the Autumn term, Class 3 thought about and discussed what they would like to learn about this term. We each made a spider diagram with some of our ideas. Mrs Garrett then looked at the most popular ideas. So this is what we will be learning about this term:
Where were/are they? What were they for? Who worked in them?
We will be discovering who the Cornish Saints are and how they came to Cornwall.
Why do we have pasties? How are they made? Will we make some?
Countries of the World.
How many continents are there? What countries make up Europe? Capital cities in Europe and their landmarks? Where did Cornish miners travel to?
This half term we are going to be concentrating on number. We are going to be looking at formal written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will then use these new skills to solve word problems. (Remember to look at the lessons on Mymaths to help you.)
We are going to imitate the wonderful book of The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish by Neil Gaiman. What will we want to swap? How will it all end?
We will be thinking about describing characters, settings and how we can develop plots. We will be discovering ways to help 'hook' readers by using interesting vocabulary and phrases.
Where in the World are the most dangerous and poisonous animals? Which city is the most populated? The least?
Autumn Term 2 - 2016
As part of our Science topic this term we have been learning about rocks. We went on a field trip to the beach to see how many different types we could find.
After a good night sleep - we were all asleep by 11.00 - we woke up bright and early to the sounds of the sea and birds singing. The sun was shining brightly so we were up rather early.
After a hearty breakfast we set off for canoeing and kayaking.
We all got a bit wet and some of us jumped in the water. Whilst some of us fell in the water! (Mrs G!) It was great fun.
We are now off to learn some Circus Skills!
Monday 27th June 2016
Well we are here again and the sun is actually shining! After settling in, beds made, pj's sorted we all had lunch and then activities started. Half of us went on the climbing wall, the other half did archery. Then we swapped. All of our children really pushed themselves and all had a go and tried to improve each time. Great resilience shown! Hope to add some more photos tomorrow. All fine and well. Mrs G, Mrs S, Mrs P and Mrs H.
Tomorrow we are off canoeing and kayaking and High Ropes will now be Wednesday morning before we come back.
Fire, Fever and Fashion.
We will be looking at The Great Fire of London, The Plague and Fashions of the time. Did you know it was very fashionable for men to wear pink and have long wigs?
Please see Unit Overview.
Please note that the unit is a Year 5 Unit of work so it has been adapted for The Year 3/4 Curriculum.
Christmas at Marhamchurch School 2015
We have been busy learning lines and songs for our Christmas production of Jesus' Christmas Party. We have had our class Christmas party and played lots of games and ate a lot of food! We have had two days of Christmas craft activities making lots of different things. We all wore our Christmas jumpers to school to raise money for charity. The Open the Book Team came in and acted out the Nativity Story for us during Collective Worship. Some of us were chosen by them to play the main characters. It was great fun. The whole school had Christmas dinner together and all the teachers served the children. Emma cooked an amazing meal.
Welcome to Class 3!
In English we are looking at poetry. We have looked at humorous poems about teachers and how they look after their pets. We changed adverbs and added different powerful verbs to make our own versions of the poems.
We have been looking how changing adverbial phrases can change the outcome of our poetry.
We will be looking at non-fiction texts and how to complete instructions.
In RE we are looking closely at the story of the Good Samaritan and at Cornwall as a special place. Later this term we will be revisiting the Nativity and the story of Christmas.
Swimming continues this term and we are all progressing well. We are also learning netball skills this half term.
In French we are learning how to greet each other and say how we are. We are learning numbers to 20, days of the week and months of the year.
We will be designing and making moving cards as part of our DT work and looking closely at animals in art.
Soon this page will be filled with exciting class news, pictures of things we’ve done and more.
