Happy New Year! It was lovely to welcome back so many happy, smiley faces this week. I hope you all had a restful Christmas break. We have now converted to an academy, becoming part of Celtic Cross Education and it is my pleasure and privilege to have been appointed acting head of school at Marhamchurch. Our improvement journey is already well underway with all the staff working extremely hard to improve the outcomes for all pupils. Celtic Cross Education has supported the school prior to its conversion and will continue to work in partnership with us to affect positive change. Please do log on to the website www.marhamchurch.cornwall.sch.uk to view the updated ‘ Welcome’.

ATTENDANCE – Special congratulations go to the 16 children who achieved 100% attendance for last term, this is a fantastic achievement! Nancy, Ollie, Jacob, Summer, Emily, Jasper, Ben, Ruby, Chloe, Charlie, Finley, Edie, Millie, Lauren, Pearl & Sean all received a certificate & their photos are on the attendance board in reception.
Well done to Class 2 who won the December class attendance competition with 93.81%.
Although we have had a nasty virus and stomach bug doing the rounds we would like to thank every parent who has supported our new attendance policy, we hope that our whole school attendance will soon be exceeding the 96% target.
ASPENS CHINESE MENU FOR SCHOOL CENSUS DAY – Instead of the usual menu on Thursday 18th January there will be Chinese Chicken Skewer or Mini Vegetable Spring Rolls served with Chinese Noodles, Vegetables and Prawn Crackers then Pancake with Ice-cream & Toffee Sauce or Fruity Jelly & Ice-cream. All for the usual price of £2.20 (KS1 free). Please encourage your child to try this menu (especially KS1 children) as the number of meals we serve on this day are recorded on the school census which is then used towards calculating some of the important funding available to our school. Thank you.
AFTER SCHOOL/LUNCHTIME CLUBS – A new list of clubs was sent home on Monday.
Monday 15th January – Woodwind lessons start; remember your instruments.
Tuesday 30th January - Cinderella pantomime for the whole school – letter will be coming home shortly.

Week of 20th February - Parent consultations – more details to follow.

TAG RUGBY - This half-term class 3, class 4 and class 5 will be playing tag rugby during their PE lesson. This is a non-contact version of the game and is great fun. This will be played on the field when possible so children will need a separate warm PE kit, eg. Joggers, old trainers & spare sweatshirt (not school jumpers) as they will get muddy!
FLU VACCINATIONS - The Nasal Flu vaccination programme in primary schools has finished. If you missed the vaccination there is a clinic at the Launceston Gateway Centre on Thursday 11th January, please contact 01872 221105 / 06 / 07 to book an appointment.
SCHOOL PAYMENTS – Now that we have converted please could all cheques be made payable to Celtic Cross Education. School meal payments should still be Aspens Services Ltd. Thank you.
The junior group will meet 6.30pm-7.15pm and costs just £1.00 per child per week. Parents are welcome to attend with their children at no extra charge.
Players will be able to win small prizes and the best players in each age group from Bude Chess can qualify for the next stage of the competition, the regional Megafinal. Further details can be found at budechess.co.uk
