NORTH DEVON SCHOOLS GYMNASTICS COMPETITION – Huge congratulations to all 42 of our gymnasts that competed on Sunday at the Falcons Gymnastics Academy in Barnstaple. It was great to be able to enter two boys teams for the first time ever and a fantastic achievement for our under 9s to win team silver - well done to Ben, Gabe and Rory. George, Jacob, Charlie L and Fin all performed well in the under 11s category with Fin achieving the 5th highest individual score for his vault and floor work combined.
“I liked vault the best. It was impressive to see how they fit all that equipment in the Falcon’s Gym.” By Gabe
We had 3 under 9 girls teams; Freya, Emily, Chloe M and Heather; Taryn, Evie, Sophie and Summer; Sofia, Maisy, Georgia and Niamh. Unfortunately we didn't medal in this category but Maisy did come 6th with her individual score which is a great achievement in such a popular age group.
“It was really good watching the bigger girls do lots of flips in the display at the end.” By Heather
“I liked doing my floor routine. I think I did the best I could.” By Emily
Our under 7s age group had an amazing day bringing home a huge collection of medals. In our mixed team (Louis, Maddison and Lily) Louis won an individual bronze medal for his combined floor and vault score - a superb achievement. And our under 7s girls team dominated their category by winning bronze, silver and gold medals with their individual scores and TEAM GOLD. They have retained their title from last year, bringing back the trophy for the second time. Huge congratulations to Keren who finished 5th, Mia for her individual bronze, Chloe for her silver and Coco for winning gold. Outstanding performances from all four girls - well done.
And finally to our four under 11 girls teams - it's another huge category and, having won it last year, there were secret hopes that we could retain the title. The teams were Libby M, Phoebe, Emmilyn, Imi and Izzy; Pearl, Kayleigh and Chloe H; Pheobe, Millie and Lauren; Libby G, Mia, Sophie, Lowen and Jess. It was a nervous wait for the medals to be announced but with three scores in the top 10 (Libby G, Sophie and Jess) we knew we were in with a chance. Sure enough, TEAM GOLD and the under 11s trophy was awarded back to Marhamchurch for the second year in a row - fantastic performances and a massive well done to Sophie C, Libby G, Jess M, Lowen and Mia L.
“When we went to the gymnastics I found the cartwheel quite tricky but I practised a lot and did really well on the day.” By Imi
“Our team came 10th overall so we are really proud.” By Chloe & Pearl
“I liked doing my floor routine the best. My total score was the 5th best in the U11 girls.” By Jess
All of our gymnasts were a credit to our school and should all be very proud of their achievements - not only the medal winners but also those who felt they were too nervous to compete but plucked up courage on the day to do it, those who have been working on their cartwheels for weeks and nailed it at the competition or those who couldn't get their feet on for the vault but persevered and made it work when it counted. You have ALL made us so proud.

We took two teams from year 5 and 6 to compete against six other teams from the academy. Our blue team - Konner, Sophie, Libby, Phoebe, Ben, Jago, Fin and Charlie L had some tough matches in the first round but enjoyed a fantastic goal from Konner and some great saves from our goalies Fin and Jago.
